Free Weekly Review Template

A weekly review asks four questions: what moved my goals forward, what got in the way, what did I learn, and what are my 3 smallest next steps. Score the week from 1 to 5, answer them below in about ten minutes, then print or download. Runs entirely in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Example: a filled weekly review

Two goals, “Run a 10K in October” and “Learn conversational Spanish”. Score: 3/5.

What moved my goals forward this week?

Ran 5 km without stopping for the first time (10K goal). Signed up for the October race.

What got in the way?

Two work evenings ran late, so Spanish stalled: no lesson since Tuesday. The daily minimum of one full lesson is too big for a work night.

What did I learn?

A small minimum I keep beats a big one I skip. Spanish becomes 10 minutes of flashcards a day.

My 3 smallest next steps for next week

1. Monday: run 6 km 2. Tuesday: 10 minutes of flashcards 3. Move "Finish the A1 course" one week later

It took about ten minutes, and it fixed the real problem (a daily minimum that was too big) instead of logging guilt about missed days.

What to ask in a weekly review

The four questions in the form cover most weeks. When you have a few more minutes, add these:

  1. Is any due date now unrealistic? Move it on purpose today rather than miss it later.
  2. Did a streak break, and what was the real cause?
  3. Is each goal still the right goal? Keep, pause or drop, one word each.
  4. What will I say no to next week to make room for the 3 steps?

Frequently asked questions

What questions should a weekly review ask?

Four are enough: what moved my goals forward this week, what got in the way, what did I learn, and what are my 3 smallest next steps. Add a 1 to 5 score for the week as a gut check. With more time, also ask whether any due date is now unrealistic and whether each goal is still the right one.

How long should a weekly review take?

About ten minutes. Write two honest lines per question rather than a page. A review that takes an hour does not survive a busy week, and skipping a week costs more than a short review.

When is the best time to do a weekly review?

The same time every week, so it becomes a habit. Sunday evening or Friday afternoon work for most people. The calendar button on this page adds a repeating reminder that links back here.

Is this weekly review template free?

Yes. There is no account and no email. Fill it in on the page, then print it or download it as Markdown, or download a blank PDF in A4 or US Letter to fill in by hand. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
